2019 Spring Family Vacation to Cancun, Mexico
As many of you know, we recently took a trip to Cancun, Mexico, and since many have asked questions regarding our resort, I’ve decided to dedicate this post to that trip.
Most of our trips usually involve multiple families of friends and family, but from time to time, we plan vacations for our family only. Earlier this year, we started searching for a good destination to travel with kids, and since none of their friends or cousins were coming along, our main priority was to make sure it’s a “worry free” all inclusive resort with a lot of kid-friendly activities. After many-many hours of searching, my husband came across this hotel “Riu Palace Costa Mujeres”, and realized that it’s exactly what we were searching for.
We are familiar with this brand name, and are aware that they have great reviews and ratings. What we absolutely loved about this specific location, is that this hotel was just built and opened only couple of months ago. The next door hotel belongs to the same company, and we were able to use their water slides and other amenities, while people from the older hotel could not access the new hotels amenities.
I’ve received many questions, specifically regarding the water slides, so just to clarify, there are 2 sections of the slides, for different age groups. While I was on the toddlers slides with our 5 year old son, my husband was enjoying the larger slides with our daughters. Just to note, all slides are in amazing shape, painted in bright colors. Also, during the day, the hotel staff had dedicated 2-3hrs of “kids only activities”, where they would gather all the kids for different activities, like collecting shells on the beach, painting, making bracelets and so on, while that allowed us to spend some alone time at the beach with my husband, and at night, they had face painting, prices and other fun activities for the kids.
Little bit about the hotel in general- its about 40min drive from the airport, its very clean, modern, smells great, big spacious and clean rooms, beautiful landscaping, very friendly staff. The atmosphere is an Absolute Paradise! As you see on the pictures, our bedroom had an ocean view, and while it was about 5-7min walk to the beach (since you had to walk through the resort yard, then pass the restaurants and pools to reach the ocean), the scenery is so breathtaking, that we enjoyed each walk, every day. Also, good to note, that while there are plenty of adult activities at night, since the beach is far from the rooms, we didn’t even hear it and it did not bother us at all.
Now, for me specifically, the most important part of the resort was the restaurants, so I wanted to share a little bit about them as well.
There are some restaurants that were open just few times a week, while other restaurants and buffet were open all day- every day. We preferred buffet for breakfast and lunch, and restaurants for dinner. Seafood was amazing, lamb was mostly dry..
Sweets looked great, but tasted kind of plain, so macaroons was my preferred choice for dessert. There was also a fast food restaurant at the beach, that we tried ones, but did not go back to it, since other options worked better for our family.
Overall, we had a great time and enjoyed every part of our trip. Would most definitely return in the future and would highly recommend it.
